Giesbaargs Muurken: A Tale of Beer and Brotherhood

In 1988, amidst the cold winter nights of a military barracks in Germany, three friends Geert Welleman, Hein Delabie and Paul Vanrespaille, found solace in the idea of brewing their own beer. With limited funds and a thirst for knowledge, they embarked on a study of the art of brewing, using their barracks room as a makeshift laboratory.

After years of experimentation and honing their skills, the trio finally launched their first beer, ‘Giesbaargs Muurken’, in 2011. The beer, named after the iconic Geraardsbergen wall, quickly gained recognition for its unique blend of flavours and aromas, achieved solely through the combination of malts, hops and yeast.

The ‘Giesbaargs Muurken’ brewery has since become synonymous with high-quality, artisanal beers, brewed with passion and a dedication to preserving the tradition of craft brewing. Their flagship beer, ‘Muurken Blond’, is a testament to their expertise, with its well-balanced taste and refreshing aroma.

The brewery’s commitment to quality extends beyond their beer. They actively support local events and initiatives, fostering a sense of community and pride in their hometown of Geraardsbergen. The ‘Giesbaargs Muurken’ brewery is a true embodiment of the spirit of camaraderie, creativity and the pursuit of excellence.
